Sunday's Sermon Text:

Matthew 4:1-11

This Sunday we come to a passage that is well known for good reason. Jesus being tested by Satan in the wilderness is not a random aside in Matthew's story. In fact, it is one more piece of the puzzle meant to help us see the truth of who Jesus really is. This week we learn that Jesus is the true Israel, succeeding in the wilderness where they failed. And this is good news for you and me!

As you prepare for worship this week by reading this passage, note what about Jesus is being challenged by Satan. How does Jesus respond? What does he appeal to? What is the significance of Jesus passing his wilderness test where Israel failed?
