Holy Week: Day One

As we saw this morning today marks the beginning of what is sometimes called Holy Week with the celebration of Palm Sunday. We looked at John 12 and his focus on Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Amazingly, as he enters Jerusalem on a donkey, he declares himself to be God's promised King come to save his people. Crossway has put together a great series of short videos that I will post each day this week to help us reflect on the last week of the life of Jesus. If you are interested in exploring this further, this series of videos is based on a helpful book you can get here.

Sunday,
Palm Sunday, the first day of the Jewish week, also begins the last week of Jesus's earthly life. We call it Palm Sunday because a crowd of Jesus's disciples, along with Galilean pilgrims in town for the Passover festivities, spread their palm branches and cloaks on the ground as Jesus makes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. Jesus is entering a very volatile situation. His coming into the city creates great concern for both the Jews and Romans.
